Harry Markopolos should be every American investor’s hero, I know that he’s one of mine. Mr. Markopolos, one of few Wall Street executives with a conscience, tried unsuccessfully for almost a decade to alert the SEC that Bernie Madoff was running a Ponzi scheme. The SEC’s refusal to investigate Madoff during that whole period is a testament of just how corrupt our system has become.
Referred to as “The MacGyver of Finance” by Jon Stewart of The Daily Show, my man Harry Markopolos pulls no punches and tells it exactly like it is. Here’s video of him being justifiably angry while promoting his new book – No One Would Listen: A True Financial Thriller. (Amazon affiliate link)
Don’t become like the SEC, this time let’s listen to what he has to say.

Here’s what the SEC says they’re doing to beef-up enforcement, including incentivisation. Does anyone really believe they’ll actually live up to their enforcement pledges?
Posted 11 Mar 2010 at 10:06 am ¶I’ve been checking the news sources to see if any reporters interviewed Harry Markopolos about the SEC settlement with Goldman Sachs, and didn’t find even one report.
Unfortunately, I knew that Harry Markopolos’s heroic actions and story would be forgotten as time passes. I guess no one does want to listen.
BUT, I did check out his new book from the library on Friday and have just started reading it. How apropos that I happened to reserve it the same day the SEC announced it’s settlement. So far, so good. I’ll post a review when I’m finished.
