Arizona’s Thriftiest Family

One of the things about our current economic crisis and the government bailout programs that bothers many of us, is that people who responsibly managed their money are now on the hook to pay for the irresponsible, unethical, corrupt, and perhaps criminal actions of those who got us into this economic mess.

So, I found it refreshing that AZcentral.com is actually offering to reward those thrifty Arizonans who happen to manage their money responsibly. According to their “Deals” webpage:

Azcentral.com is looking for Arizona’s Thriftiest Family. Do you save more than you spend on groceries? Do you only dine out with coupons? Do you take weeklong vacations for the cost of a weekend? We want to hear from you.

Azcentral.com staffers will choose 20 semifinalists. Then, we will ask azcentral readers to vote for who is Arizona’s Thriftiest Family. Five finalists will be profiled on azcentral.com and in The Arizona Republic, and readers again will vote on the state’s top thrifty family.

The top winner gets $500, the four runners up will each receive $250.

If you think that you’re one of those thrifty Arizonans who, as my wife often says, can “squeeze the shit out of a buffalo nickel”, then make sure to stop by AZcentral.com to be recognized for being financially-responsible, and for your chance to be rewarded for managing your money wisely.

Vote to choose the finalists. According to their website:

We’re looking for Arizona’s Thriftiest Family. You sent us more than 200 applications. From them, we learned a lot about how to save money, from amazing stories (no air conditioning in Phoenix?) to practical tips (enjoying free events instead of paying for entertainment). We’ve narrowed the field to 24 semifinalists — four from each of five areas of the Valley and one set of four from the rest of the state. (Read the rules).

We need your help in choosing finalists. Visit thrifty.azcentral.com once a day and vote for your favorite thrifty family. Vote once a day in each of these six (6) regions. Voting ends at noon, Wednesday, March 18, 2009.
